FLORAL

Magnolia in Good Light
MAGNOLIA IN LIGHT
Watercolor on Paper
7 3/4 x 8
My lovely magnolia bush yields great images of light & shadow in the late evening. Doesn’t this flower just seem to want to talk to you?
2009 Peony Expressive 21 X 28 watercolor
PEONY EXPRESSIVE
Watercolor on Paper
20 3/4 x 28

This tree peony blossom expresses so much in line, movement, texture and quiet color shifts, that my eyes dance over the image. It just seems to say, “I love life, bring it on!”

PEONY STATEMENT
Watercolor on Paper
13 x 18 1/2

This tree peony was a special gift to my neighbor from her daughter. Once again, nature delights us with her display of sunlit shapes, curving around a delicate center.

Day Lily Shining 7 X 11 watercolor
DAY LILY SHINING
Watercolor on Paper
7 1/2 x 11

My favorite rendition of this pair of day lilies. I love the contrast and bright colors, as well as the swift brush strokes.

2007 Pink Rose Ballet 20 X 28 watercolor_edited-1
PINK ROSE BALLET
Watercolor on Paper
20 1/2 x 28

These single roses appeared to follow such a gentle, flowing dance, along with their buds, that I had to capture it. I can see the dancers turning tight circles, with their skirts flowing. These roses were in the Luther Burbank Garden in Santa Rosa, California.

TO BLOSSOM IN PINK
Watercolor On Paper
8 x 10 1/2

Originally, I was fascinated by the flow, the placement, of the 3 single roses. After completing the painting, my favorite part is the shadow colors in the lower rose. I’m also amazed at the real quality in the leaves at the top left.

Two Iris
TWO IRIS
Watercolor on Paper
8 x 7 1/4
Can you believe, these iris grew in my own yard! I love how they faced different ways, so that you almost don’t realize there are two. Best of all, I love the frilly petals, with yellows and purples, the shadows and the mystery inside area. I had fun using different methods to paint the many tiny veins of purple!
2010 Light Worshiping Iris
LIGHT WORSHIPING IRIS
Watercolor on Paper
9 x 12
I was taking a watercolor class on painting flowers when the sun suddenly came shining down from above, onto this iris that was in a vase, ignored.  The background was a dark gray, beautifully setting off the glory of color and light that glowed there.  This vision truly fills a special place in my memory.
2010 Peony Talk
PEONY TALK
Watercolor on Paper
11 x 15

These peonies seem to hold such a graceful pride, even as they are weighed down by water.  This painting has been donated to the SWS Auction, held 2/22/11.
