ALERT
Watercolor on Paper

While waiting for the ferry at Whidbey Island we watched this very energetic horse in his trailer, also waiting. He was not as patient as we humans, even biting the bed of the pick up truck parked in line near by. He struck me as most handsome in his eagerness to get going.

STRUGGLE
Watercolor on Paper
10 1/2 x 11

I took the photo for this painting in 1974, of a farmer struggling with the band on his threshing machine. Hard work, in a time long since gone. Both were old at that time, I can only imagine their struggles are over now. This painting won the Fine Art Studio Online Award for Outstanding Watercolor in August 2009.

RUSTING AWAY
Watercolor on Paper
12 1/2 x 9 1/2

There is this OLD car on a trail around Little Diamond Lake (Spokane) that has really taken its hits (are those shotgun holes?) over time. I was entranced with its colors, especially the colors of the fungus, as well as its shapes. It seems almost like an abstract image, from this viewpoint. This painting won 1st Place at the Angel Gallery Watercolor Exhibit March 2008.

CAR VERSUS FOREST
Watercolor on Paper
16 3/4 x 18 1/2

Over the years the forest seems to be overwhelming this old car, giving us quite a contrast between life and bright colors against the inanimate with dark colors. This is the same car pictured in “Rusting Away” and “Gentle Invasion”.

I was fascinated by the play of light and shadow inside the car and on its hood here.
Organic Carrots and Buddies 12 X 16 watercolor 2
ORGANIC CARROTS AND BUDDIES
Watercolor on Paper
12 x 16

This painting was a big stretch for me, a still life done very quickly. I was fascinated with these carrots when I purchased them and decided to do a still life which included other vegetables purchased that day, before they all didn’t look so nice, or were eaten. I loved working with such pure colors and quick strokes. I also treated myself to those carrots after painting them!
